Cala Benirràs

Cala Benirràs is the beach most people picture when they imagine Ibiza's hippie side. A small offshore islet shaped like a boat sits directly in front of the bay and frames one of the most photographed sunsets on the island. Every Sunday evening drummers gather on the rocks at the edge of the beach as the sun goes down. What began decades ago as an informal gathering has become something close to a weekly ritual with visitors and residents both showing up to watch. By day the beach is calm enough for swimming with young children and quiet enough for a long lunch at one of the two chiringuitos set back from the sand. Neither one tries to compete with the beach clubs further south and that is exactly the appeal. Arrive early in July and August since parking near the beach is limited and word of Benirràs has long since spread well beyond the island.
