Can Marçà Caves

Can Marçà Caves run deep into the cliffs above Port de Sant Miquel and were once used by smugglers moving goods along this stretch of coast. Walkways and lighting were added decades ago to open the caves to visitors without changing the rock itself. A guided walk leads through a series of chambers filled with stalactites and underground pools with the tour finishing at a small waterfall set up specifically for visitors. The whole route takes around forty minutes at an easy pace. The caves stay cool even in the height of summer which makes the visit a welcome break from the heat outside. Families with young children tend to enjoy the sense of adventure without any of the difficulty of a real hike. Tickets can be bought on site and the caves run tours throughout the day in high season. It remains one of the most reliable rainy day activities in the north of the island.
