Beaches & Calas
Cala Xarraca
Portinatx · North Ibiza

Place overview
Cala Xarraca sits inside a wide horseshoe bay near the northern tip of Ibiza. The shape of the bay keeps the water calm even when wind picks up along the rest of the coast which makes it one of the more reliable swimming spots on this side of the island. A rocky seabed and shallow water make it one of the better snorkelling beaches in Ibiza. Fish gather close to shore around the rocks at each end of the bay and children can wade out a long way before the water gets deep. At the eastern edge a small natural clay pool has become known for its mineral rich mud. Visitors cover themselves in it and let it dry in the sun before rinsing off in the sea which has turned into something of a local ritual. Sunset at Cala Xarraca draws a quieter crowd than the beaches further south. There is no music and no rows of sunbeds to compete for. Just the bay slowly turning gold and then grey while the last swimmers head in.
