Mercadillo Sant Joan is the weekly market held in the centre of the village of Sant Joan de Labritja in the north of the island. It runs on a smaller and quieter scale than the well known hippie markets further east. Local growers sell fruit vegetables and cheese alongside a handful of craft and clothing stalls set up around the village square. Prices tend to run lower than the tourist facing markets and much of what is sold comes from farms within a few kilometres. The market suits residents doing their weekly shop far more than visitors looking for a show. Mornings are the best time to go both for the freshest produce and for a market that still feels like it belongs to the village rather than to tourism. For anyone living in the north of Ibiza it is worth building into a weekly routine rather than treating as a one off visit.
